LAWCOACHBC: A NEW, FREE SERVICE TO HELP SEPARATING BRITISH
COLUMBIANS
Kavya and Arjun1 had been together for more than a decade. They were
high school sweethearts. But after their child was born, Arjun became
unhappy in the marriage. In time, he met another woman and left Kavya
shortly thereafter. Their son was three years old.
For Kavya, her happy family dream had been shattered. She needed to
pick up the pieces and move forward as a single parent. There were bills to
pay and daily schedules to work out. The house was going to have to be sold.
There were a lot of really important decisions that needed to be made. But
Kavya felt lost.
She did not have the money to hire a lawyer, and she really did not want
to end up fighting with Arjun in court. Kavya needed a different approach.
Through a friend, she discovered a new service called LawCoachBC. She
went to <LawCoachBC.ca>, registered for free and signed up for the “Separation
Starter” service. For Kavya, she recalls this as her first positive step
in creating a new life for herself and her son.
WHAT IS LAWCOACHBC?
LawCoachBC provides free, personalized guidance for British Columbians
going through separation or divorce. The service is provided by the Justice
Education Society of BC (“JES”), which has been helping separating families
for more than 20 years. JES created the province’s Parenting After Separation
course, as well as <FamiliesChange.ca> and <HowToSeparate.ca>.
