2022 marks 25 years since the doors of the British Columbia Law Institute
(“BCLI”) first opened. The BCLI was established after the dissolution of the
Law Reform Commission of British Columbia, and since that time we have
undertaken projects on issues that affect communities and impact legal
matters throughout British Columbia. We are proud of our extensive record
on law reform, and we look forward to the new opportunities and projects
ahead.
Here are a few projects we are working on for the coming year.
OUR NEW LOOK
We have a new look and a new online presence. The pandemic has made
clear the importance of online connections. Our front door is no longer at
our office (though everyone is always welcome); it is primarily our website.
Our visual identity and revitalized branding capture key elements of our
work: our foundational research; our collaboration with communities,
stakeholders and experts; and our ability to reflect these individual perspectives
for better laws—plain and simple.
We have also updated our website to better present our current projects
and help you find information about our completed projects. Information
has been streamlined to better share our past and present law reform work
and encourage users to follow along with project developments in real time.
We hope this new website will enable increased engagement with our work.

We plan to celebrate our 25th anniversary over the course of the year, in
ways that will be aligned with public health restrictions. We will be reaching
