THE ADVOCATE 149
VOL. 80 PART 1 JANUARY 2022
BENCH
AND BAR
January 17, 2022 marks 80 years since boxing legend Muhammad Ali
(born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.) was born. We celebrate below the
pugilists who sometimes roll with the punches and sometimes punch
above their weight, beat others to the punch, and occasionally and
wisely advise clients to throw in the towel but never to swing below the belt.
Negina Khalil finds herself in the ring at Pulver Crawford Munroe, leaving
MLT Aikins’ Vancouver office. Faraz Ravanbakhsh leaves McLean Armstrong
to give it a swing at Harper Grey. Also joining Harper Grey is Roshni
R. Veerapen, who was previously in-house counsel with the College of Dental
Surgeons of B.C. Aaron Kandola puts on the gloves at Harper Grey as
well, leaving Lawson Lundell. Emily Stockley travels south and west from
Iqaluit, where she was legal counsel with the Government of Nunavut, to
join Lawson Lundell in Vancouver. Liyan Wu is now in Clark Wilson’s corner,
having previously been with Chen and Leung Barristers and Solicitors.
Monique Evans, previously with DLA Piper, joins Hunter Litigation Chambers.
Jeevan Ahuja moves from BKS Law Corporation to join Richards Buell
Sutton. Chapmann Y.M. Wong joins Clark Wilson after a stint in Paperclip
Law’s corner.
The Honourable Judge Marion Buller was recently appointed by the University
of Victoria as its 12th chancellor for a three-year term commencing
January 1, 2022. Judge Buller was the first First Nations woman appointed
as a judge in British Columbia, in 1994.
Lawyers who have moved their practices should e-mail details of their past and present circumstances to Peter Roberts, Q.C.,
at <benchandbar@the-advocate.ca> to ensure an appearance in “Bench and Bar”. Note that we do not report changes in
lawyers’ status within their firms (from associate to partner, for example) other than in cases where persons formerly articled
have been hired as associates.
