316 THE ADVOCATE
VOL. 80 PART 2 MARCH 2022
In Vanchieri v. New Jersey Sports & Exposition Auth., 492 A.2d 686 (1985), the
Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division affirmed the dismissal of
a case in which one of the plaintiffs sustained personal injury when
“knocked down by horseplay of young rowdies at the Giant Stadium while
leaving a football game”. The court noted that “the complexion of the attendance
at the venue may change with the nature of the event, i.e., the spectators
at a rock concert may have different behavioral aspects than those in
attendance at, for instance, a concert by Luciano Pavarotti.”
Ryan H. Clements was appointed, and R.M. John D. Orr, Q.C., Robert
Newell and Katherine W. Wellburn were reappointed, as members of the

Ethel Smyth was an English opera composer. According to Wikipedia, “her
opera The Wreckers is considered by some critics to be the ‘most important
English opera composed during the period between Purcell and Britten’”
and “another of her operas, Der Wald, mounted in 1903, was for more than
a century the only opera by a woman composer ever produced at New
York’s Metropolitan Opera”.
“In the immortal words of Gilbert and Sullivan, the punishment should fit
the crime”: Sauvé v. Canada (Chief Electoral Officer), 2002 SCC 68, McLachlin
C.J.
Sara A. Levine, Q.C., was reappointed as chair of the South Coast British
Columbia Transportation Authority Police Board for a term ending December
31, 2022.
“Maybe the phantom of the opera did not have commuting expenses but in
modern society most everyone else does”: Seattle Opera v. NLRB, No. 01-1127
(D.C. Cir. 2002), Circuit Judge Randolph, dissenting.
“To use an analogy from basketball, the Plaintiffs’ motion to strike is a threepoint
air ball. In form, it is a beautiful athletic shot from some distance from
the net that arcs skyward, but the ball misses its target completely and
gracefully passes through the air. The opposition grabs the rebound and
fast-breaks up the court”: Fareau v. Bell Canada, 2021 ONSC 8440 at para. 33.
