VOL. 80 PART 2 MARCH 2022
“Sesselpupser” (German): literally “armchair-farter”, someone who gives
orders from the comfort of their office but who doesn’t do any of the work
themselves.
The wonders of human ingenuity never cease, even if employed for stupid
reasons. In that vein, The Guardian recently reported on an Italian dentist
who had gotten into trouble for presenting a fake silicone arm for his
COVID vaccine injection. He justified his conduct as a personal protest
against vaccine mandates and has since said he received his vaccine—in his
real arm.
Andrea R. Jones was recently reappointed as a public representative to the
Drug Benefit Council for a term ending December 31, 2023. This is a committee
of three public members and nine clinicians/medical experts who
review drug proposals and make recommendations to the Ministry of
Health on which drugs should be covered by Pharmanet and on what basis.
Justin S. Thind was reappointed as a public member to the board of the
College of Pharmacists of British Columbia for a term ending December 31,
2023.
New Jersey has taken steps to counter the “unrelenting barrage of negative
images” about “Italians and Americans of Italian heritage” through encouraging
education at high schools and post-secondary institutions and moving
to establish a state-level commission to promote cultural and educational
programs more generally promoting “awareness and memorialization”. As
part of its findings in support of these steps, the legislature noted that “the
histories of our nation and our State have been significantly enriched by the
heritage of Italians and Americans of Italian heritage”, with “the cultural
heritage of Italy including the classical civilization of Rome, the fine arts
of the Renaissance, the scientific and artistic genius of Da Vinci, the literary
works of Dante and Petrarch, the operas of Verdi and Puccini and many
other contributions that have ennobled civilization”: “Findings, declarations
relative to Italian heritage and cultural and educational programs”, NJ.Rev
Stat § 18A:4-42 (2019).
Christopher W. Sanderson, Q.C., was reappointed to the board of the
British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority for a term ending January 31,
2024.
Cheryl D’Sa and Paul E. Pearson were both recently appointed to the
CLEBC board of directors.
