THE ADVOCATE 307
VOL. 80 PART 2 MARCH 2022
BENCH
AND BAR
Among the operas that have premiered in the month of March
in years past are Verdi’s Rigoletto (1851) and La Traviata
(1853), Gounod’s Faust (1859) and Bizet’s Carmen (1875).
Johann Strauss’s light opera Die Fledermaus (1874) premiered
that month as well, and did Trial by Jury (1875), an early one-act comic
opera from the duo perhaps most often cited by judges, Gilbert and Sullivan.
This March, lean forward in your balcony seats (opera glasses
optional) with our program in hand, and watch our distinguished colleagues
embark on Act II (or III, or IV…) of their careers. Cue the triumphal
march!

lawyers’ status within their firms (from associate to partner, for example) other than in cases where persons formerly articled
