THE ADVOCATE 235
VOL. 79 PART 2 MARCH 2021
HAPPENINGS AT THE
LAWYERS INN SOCIETY
By Adam Howden-Duke*
2020 was a tumultuous year for the Lawyers Inn Society. Like you, we were
focused on responding to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However,
as you will be well aware, the Society also lost our valued space on the fifth
floor of the Vancouver Law Courts building, despite our best efforts to
reverse our landlord’s decision.
As the Society’s board of directors looks to 2021, in addition to looking for
a new home, we see the Society as having specific relevance in responding
to our current isolating circumstances, and we intend to offer an array of
virtual events to ensure that the bench and bar will continue to have a
forum to meet and foster the ideals of co-operation, the exchange of ideas
and collegiality upon which the Society was founded 50 years ago. In particular,
we have coming up:
• Lunching with Leaders: technology and the practice of litigation in
2021 (spring)
• The Smartest Law Firm in BC trivia event (spring or fall)
• Auction of the custodial rights to the historical photographs that
adorned the Inn (at our Annual General Meeting in May)
All current members ought to have received the board’s letter advising
them that all membership fees for 2021 are by donation only and that all
current members have been automatically re-enrolled. If you wish to
become a member and stay informed, please e-mail our general manager,
Steve Chamli, at <contact@lawcourtsinn.com>.
