BENCH
AND BAR
Enchanted April is a book by Elizabeth von Arnim about a group
of women (one of whom is married to Mr. Wilkins, a solicitor)
who respond to a delightful advertisement addressed “To Those
who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine”: “Small mediaeval Italian
Castle on the shores of the Mediterranean to be Let Furnished for the
month of April. Necessary servants remain. Z, Box 1000, The Times.” The
book was much later made into a movie starring Joan Plowright, among
others. Although letting a villa in Italy this spring is not likely to be an
option, we wish you an enchanted March and April. No doubt the news of
our enchanting colleagues below will cast a powerful spell. Necessary servants,
meanwhile, remain.
Craig Hoskins sets up shop with Clark Wilson, moving from Mogan Daniels
Slager to do so. Tessa E.M. Rowland, formerly in the Vancouver office of
MLT Aikins, is now with Rowland & Company. Scott A. Turner leaves
Burns Fitzpatrick LLP to start up Turner & Co. He is joined by Balpreet S.
Khatra, who had been a sole practitioner. Brent A. Ellwyn merges his firm,
Strive Law, with BKS Law (formerly known as Brawn Karras & Sanderson).
Shu Ki Joyce Pong joins Edwards, Kenny & Bray after completing her articles
at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt in Calgary. North Vancouver’s Southern
Butler Price bolsters its ranks with the addition of Neelu K. Chauhan, who
came from UBC, where she was a senior manager in the employee relations
department; Marion T. Galinski, who was previously a sole practitioner;
and Sarah Lumsden, who was previously legal counsel with Canucks
Lawyers who have moved their practices should email details of their past and present circumstances to Peter Roberts, Q.C.,
at <benchandbar@the-advocate.ca> to ensure an appearance in “Bench & Bar”. Note that we do not report changes in
lawyers’ status within their firms (from associate to partner, for example) other than in cases where persons formerly articled
have been hired as associates.
