Janae worked as a teaching assistant for the first-year course Legislation,
Administration and Policy, and as a research assistant for a disability rights
project under Dr. Ruby Dhand. She has also worked at the TRU Community
Legal Clinic and volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada. Janae
received course prizes in municipal law, and two other courses, while also
receiving the Alvin and Lydia Grant Scholarship. Janae will be articling at
Lidstone & Company in Vancouver.
The Royal Society of Canada created the Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella
Prize in 2021, with its first recipients announced this year. The prize will be
presented annually to a “graduating law student in each of the law schools
in Canada who is most likely to positively influence equity and social justice
in Canada or globally”. The inaugural TRU Law recipient of the prize is
Sydney Snape. In law school, Sydney served as president of TRU OUTlaws,
was the team lead of Pro Bono Students Canada’s TRU Chapter, was the student
representative on the TRU Law Equity Committee and was the Director
of the Kamloops Pride Association. She was awarded the Law
Foundation Public Interest Award in 2021. Sydney will be working in Vancouver
following graduation, articling at Farris LLP.
