D. Michael Bain, Q.C., is the editor of the Advocate. He practises employment
and administrative law at HHBG Lawyers in Vancouver. Before law,
Michael was a security guard, a sandwich maker, an elevator operator and
a freelance bassist. He was also a Beaver and a Cub.
The Honourable Justice David A. Crerar, when
not climbing mountains or running trails, can be
found running trials in the British Columbia
Supreme Court, the corridors of which he has
haunted since his June 2019 appointment. He is
a former Beaver, Cub and Scout.
Heather Konrad Hill is a lawyer with the
Department of Justice Canada in Vancouver. She
is a lover of coffee, wine, puzzles and golf, and in
her spare time is a novelist. Her website is

being a mischief maker and Canadian.
Joel Nitikman, Q.C., is a partner in the tax group
at Dentons and one of Canada’s top tax litigators.
He was awarded the Canadian Tax Foundation’s
Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing
Award in 2006 and again in 2018. Joel was not a
Beaver, Cub or Scout. He is, however, very good
at splitting wood with an axe.
