THREE NEW FACULTY MEMBERS JOIN TRU LAW
TRU Law is pleased to welcome three new faculty members: Dr. Colton
Fehr, Dr. Krish Maharaj and Matt Malone.
Colton Fehr teaches and conducts research in the areas of criminal law,
criminal procedure, evidence and constitutional law. He was called to the
bar in Saskatchewan in 2014. Before joining TRU Law in 2022, Colton
clerked at the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan, was a Crown prosecutor
for Saskatchewan Justice and was an assistant professor in the School of
Criminology at Simon Fraser University. Colton has published numerous
articles in law reviews across Canada. Recently, Colton authored the book
Constitutionalizing Criminal Law (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2022). The book
critiques the Supreme Court of Canada’s development of the relationship
between criminal and constitutional law and recommends placing less
reliance on the “principles of fundamental justice” when using the Charter
to shape criminal law.
Krish Maharaj is a private law scholar, specializing in contract, equity and
private law remedies. He has been admitted to practise in New Zealand,
Alberta and British Columbia. Krish comes to us from the University of
Manitoba Faculty of Law. Krish’s scholarship focuses on the intersection of
private law rights and remedies. His doctoral work examined the role of mitigation
in breach of contract cases, and the ways in which rights arising in
contract, equity and tort should not be vindicated through damages awards
more generally. His recent scholarship has focused on the principle of good
faith in contract law, and alternatives to the duty of honest performance
available in tort and equity. This work has led to various speaking engagements,
such as at the British Columbia Annual Review of Law and Practice,
