that know her, Briana threw herself into the role of being a parent with the
same passion as she pursued everything else in life. Her children are
accomplished equestrian riders, freestyle skiers, sport climbers and judoka.
Will any of the three follow their grandfather and mother to the law? It
remains to be seen. Needless to say, Scott has been a source of unwavering
support to Briana as she balanced the competing demands of practising law
full-time and being a mother to three busy children.
To those of us that had the great pleasure to be her partners, we will miss
her. To those that will appear in front of Justice Hardwick, our loss is their
gain.
The Honourable Judge Dannielle Dunn
One would not blame Judge Dannielle Dunn
if she was taken aback by the reactions of her many
colleagues when the news of her appointment to the
Provincial Court of British Columbia was made known.
Many of us at Somers Poulin Hall admitted to having
said to Dannielle some version of “I’m so happy for
you, but I’m so sad for myself.” Such was the calibre,
quality and importance of Dannielle to us as a colleague and a lawyer, and
the impact of her appointment was felt almost immediately. The Provincial
Court was about to gain a compassionate, kind, thoughtful and brilliant new
judge, and we were so happy for the people of British Columbia, but also a
little sad as we would now have to give her up.
Born to high school sweethearts Ken and Myra Warren in Calgary, Dannielle
split her childhood between Calgary and Kamloops before moving to
Kelowna as a teenager. Her father, sister, niece and nephew remain in
Kelowna, where Dannielle returns almost every summer, usually with one
or both of her boys with her.
Kelowna was also where Dannielle met her future husband, Darren.
High school sweethearts by definition, Dannielle knew Darren was a
keeper when he moved across the province with her as she pursued her
passion of working with and for the benefit of children. Darren pursued his
business degree while Dannielle attended the University of Victoria’s Child
