THE ADVOCATE 785
VOL. 79 PART 5 SEPTEMBER 2021
BENCH
AND BAR
Sir Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos, two of the world’s richest men,
have shot into space—in any event, more than a dizzying 80 kilometres
above the Earth’s surface—and safely returned, though as
matters stand their claim to actual astronauts’ wings is uncertain.
Have any of our colleagues on the bench or at the bar travelled a similar distance,
even across the Earth’s surface? Read on to find out!
Lucy Williams rockets from McMillan to Lawson Lundell. Sunny Chiu
orbits from MacLean Law to Clark Wilson. Juan Pablo Mendez Campos is
transported from Dentons to Clark Wilson. Kristil Hammer and Natalie
Sparling both touch down at the Victoria office of Farris, moving from Clay
& Company to do so. Natanya Garcia launches over to Synergy Business
Lawyers, lifting off from Singleton Reynolds to do so. Mark R. Braeder,
once with Stewart, Aulinger & Co., now gets his coffee at Webster, Hudson
& Coombe.
Nazeer Mitha, Q.C., has separated from the mothership of Harris & Co. and
landed on the surface to form Mitha Law Group. Joining him in the escape
pod is Erin White. After following the path of two droids, the pair stumbled
upon Sandra Cunningham, Q.C., a retired Crown prosecutor who has
joined them to conduct workplace investigations. It is not clear whether
there is also a Wookie working with them. May the force be with them.
Brooke A. Fortugno joins Eyford Partners, having previously been at Clark
Wilson. Chris Sharpe also lands at Clark Wilson from Faskens. Laesha J.
Smith moves from McEwan Partners to Cozen O’Connor’s Vancouver
Lawyers who have moved their practices should e-mail details of their past and present circumstances to Peter Roberts, Q.C.,
at <benchandbar@the-advocate.ca> to ensure an appearance in “Bench and Bar”. Note that we do not report changes in
lawyers’ status within their firms (from associate to partner, for example) other than in cases where persons formerly articled
have been hired as associates.
