unusual treatment, and at the time of his death, a challenge on behalf of 15
young persons to the federal government’s response to the climate change
emergency.
Each year, students with his spirit of confronting injustice come to UVic
Law, and we have recently created two new funds in Joe’s name to honour
his contributions. First, the Joseph Arvay Legacy Fund will be used to support
work experience and learning opportunities for students interested in
public interest law. Second, the Joseph Arvay Social Justice Award will be
given to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) students with a commitment
to equality and human rights.
