BENCH
AND BAR
T he kraken that U.S. lawyer Sidney Powell threatened to
release in championing then-President Trump’s supposed re-
election is a mythological creature that, in the 1981 and 2010
film versions of Clash of the Titans (in which the line “release
the kraken” is uttered by Sir Laurence Olivier and Liam Neeson, respectively),
somewhat resembled a dinosaur emerging from the watery depths.
In its origins in Scandinavian myth and legend, the kraken may been more
akin to an enormous octopus, a few of which may be found swimming, or
scrambling, below. And you will also see that, yet again, much like Inky the
Octopus (read on!), some of our colleagues have made their escape from
one den to another—we hope with fewer contortions than Inky required.
Former partner Donald C. McKay rejoins the firm of Carfra Lawton in Victoria
as associate counsel, moving from Dinning Hunter Jackson. Jeanne-
Louise O. Posey and Jeff Sheremeta both join Harper Grey. Ms. Posey was
previously with Moody’s Tax Law in Edmonton, Alberta, while Mr. Sheremata
was in-house counsel at Vision Critical. David R. Greig bids farewell
to South Coast Law Group to set up Ocean Park Law. Leilani Karr shifts
from QA Law to Brownlee LLP. Ruby Egit returns to Branch MacMaster
from Gowling WLG (Canada). Siobhan McConnell joins Branch MacMaster
from Borden Ladner Gervais. Phil Dwyer, C.M., moves slightly up-Island
from his position at Merrill, Long and Co. in Nanaimo to a new solo practice,
Phil Dwyer Law, in bucolic Qualicum Beach. Sean Tamboline is now a policy
analyst with the B.C. Ministry of Health, moving from Alexander Holburn
Beaudin + Lang. Kyle Friesen has retired as legal advisor to RCMP “E”
Lawyers who have moved their practices should email details of their past and present circumstances to Peter Roberts, Q.C.,
at <benchandbar@the-advocate.ca> to ensure an appearance in “Bench and Bar”. Note that we do not report changes in
lawyers’ status within their firms (from associate to partner, for example) other than in cases where persons formerly articled
have been hired as associates.
