VOL. 79 PART 4 JULY 2021
Jodie’s husband Todd, too, proclaims a debt of gratitude to the legal profession,
because had Jodie not completed her bar exams in November 2002,
and had she not been out celebrating that event on that night, he would not
have met her. Todd and Jodie married in April 2005. Their daughters Zoe
and Ava were born in May 2012. Zoe and Ava are identical twins, which provides
endless opportunities to exercise Jodie’s patience and negotiation
skills. She recalls a trip to Hawaii when the twins were eight months old. To
this day, Jodie remembers spending that “holiday” in the hotel room. As her
“heart and soul and motivation”, her daughters are sure to learn by example
through Jodie’s hardworking and empathetic approach to most things.
Jodie and Todd and their family have a busy and full life with work, eightyear
old twins and a passion for travel. Jodie uses yoga, meditation and
powerlifting to supplement her life and continues to participate as much as
possible in other passions: teaching and presenting at conferences and
studying and championing equity and diversity.
Jodie’s commitment to public service has been advanced by her appointment
to the bench. The people of British Columbia will know they will
always have an open, fair and compassionate ear when they come into her
court. When asked how she was going to celebrate her appointment to the
bench, she told one colleague she was going to buy herself a minivan. This
speaks volumes about the humble, down-to-earth person Jodie is.

being the Miss Thompson Valley runner-up (nearly
crowned by the Thompson Valley Hereford Breeders
Association), Lindsay Lyster found her first potential
client: her high school principal, who proclaimed
that, should she find a career in law, he would gladly
retain her services.
Daughter of John Ronald Lyster and Margaret Georgina Lyster (née Hopkins),
Lindsay was the youngest of three girls raised on the family homestead
in Armstrong, B.C. Ron, a rancher if ever there was one, met Margaret
at the Buckerfield’s seed store where she worked. The two fell in love and
