THE ADVOCATE 719
VOL. 78 PART 5 SEPTEMBER 2020
will be a milestone in a law-reform project funded by the Law Foundation
of British Columbia.
Since 2019, BCLI’s Child Protection Project Committee has been examining
this province’s central child protection statute, with a focus on identifying
outdated provisions and operational incompatibilities. The committee’s tentative
recommendations address topics such as modernizing the Act’s terms
and definitions, enhancing access to independent legal advice, improving
aspects of court procedures and orders under the Act, and enabling the incorporation
of a child’s views in a child protection proceeding.
Upon publication of the consultation paper, everyone will have the
chance to make their views on the committee’s tentative recommendations
known. Please check <www.bcli.org>, where copies of the consultation
paper will be made available for download.
