THE ADVOCATE 865
VOL. 78 PART 6 NOVEMBER 2020
In recognition of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular its impact on
the VBA’s ability to deliver in-person events and on members and firms, the
VBA was pleased to provide complimentary membership renewals for the
2020/2021 year. While complimentary membership renewals were offered,
firms and members were also given the opportunity to voluntarily renew
memberships in order to continue to support the VBA and the organizations
the VBA supports, such as the Justice Education Society, Access Pro Bono
and the Lawyers Assistance Program. Thank you to those members and
firms who were willing and able to voluntarily renew memberships to continue
to support the VBA and the organizations that it, in turn, supports.
We invite all VBA members to attend the VBA’s annual general meeting,
which will take place, virtually, on November 18, 2020. Members will have
the opportunity to vote for the incoming slate of executive board members.
The executive board members who will be stepping down at the annual general
meeting are Rachel Barsky, Natasha Rana, Deborah Flood, Roshni Veerapen
and Janelle Mackoff. The VBA thanks these executive members for
their contributions over the past two years. Jason Newton is also ending his
two-year term. Jason will be nominated to fill the role of vice president at
the upcoming annual general meeting.
This year, the VBA is also saying goodbye to Carolyn MacDonald, who is
stepping down from her role as secretary-treasurer after ten years on the
VBA board. In other transitions, the VBA’s longtime business manager,
Lynda Roberts, will focus her role on the Advocate moving forward. The
VBA thanks Carolyn and Lynda for their many years of service. The VBA is
pleased to announce that Zachary Rogers will be nominated to fill the role
of secretary-treasurer at the upcoming annual general meeting.
Although we cannot be together in the ways that we are used to, the
VBA will continue to realize its objectives. We are always pleased to receive
feedback from our members. Please reach out to us via e-mail at <info@
