and as a director from May 2012 to September 2020. During his term,
he chaired the Advisory Committee for the project on Technology,
Remoteness, Disability and Damages and served on the board executive
as treasurer, vice chair and chair. Tom also served on the Audit,
Finance and Risk Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee and
the Governance Committee established in September 2019. Although
he is no longer on the board, I know he will continue to be an ambassador
for the work of BCLI and the Canadian Centre for Elder Law
(“CCEL”). I wish to express my personal gratitude to Tom for his past
two years as chair of the board. He leaves big shoes to fill! Tom will
remain active in the legal community, serving as a bencher for New
Westminster County for the 2020–2021 term.
• Lisa A. Peters, Q.C.: Lisa joined BCLI as a member at large in 2010.
Lisa’s contributions to law reform run deep and extend beyond BCLI to
participation in the Uniform Law Conference of Canada. Lisa served on
the BCLI board from October 2010 to October 2020. In addition to her
roles as treasurer, vice chair, chair and past chair, she served on the
Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, the Nominating Committee and
the Program Committee, and was a committee member on the recent
CCEL project on Health Care Consent, Aging and Dementia: Mapping
Law and Practice in British Columbia. Lisa’s commitment to BCLI and
its work was unwavering.
• The Honourable Marion J. Allan: The Honourable Marion J. Allan has
a long history with BCLI and the CCEL. Marion was first appointed to
the BCLI board by the CBABC from 2013 to 2017. She was later appointed
as a member at large and served from October 2018 to September 2020.
During her time with the BCLI, Marion has been a member of the Executive
Committee, the Program Committee and the Nominating Committee.
She has also been a frequent presenter at the CCEL’s elder law
conferences. We will miss her passionate and engaging presentations on
elder law matters and her wisdom at the board table.
• Judge Oliver Fleck: Oliver joined BCLI as an appointee of the CBABC
in October 2014. During his six-year term, Oliver was an engaged member
of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, the Executive Committee,
the Strategic Planning Committee and the Governance Committee.
Oliver was appointed as a judge of the B.C. Provincial Court on August
1, 2020. We wish him well in his new role and thank him for his service.
